This story started out so differently than I had expected, that I almost stopped reading. Leaving the late 19th century in book #1, and starting in the 20th century in book #2, turned me off. But finally, the author tied Eric to both times in her story. Hopefully, book #3 will pull everything together in the story about Eric, Annette, Kristine, and Aaron.

This book is really short. It says that it's 270 pages but the first (small chunk) is praise for the series and about other books....so the reading of this went by really quickly. I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but it didn't feel as 'magical' as the first one, in fact I found my self more irritated reading this one than the book 1, but it was still an ok read. We start off in Eric's perspective as he is trying to deal with the whole Kristen being in Annette's body thing. Everything is really predictable, and it gets dealt with really quickly, I was hoping for more drama. Also I was kind of glad that things went down with Annette's parent the way they did, but I don't know what I feel about the whole New Orleans thing that authors do that makes everyone seem like they're magically savvy. Mostly I was disappointing in Annette, I understand she's 18 years old. I get that's a young age to have all these great guys throwing themselves at her BUT I would think that she'd have some common sense when it came to dating. EVEN though she's not experienced at dating you'd think she'd know not to run from one bed to another...to another. It's confusing for her but unfair for all the guys she's stringing along that seem to like her indecisiveness. Eric is also indecisive and he's super old! Geez stay or go that doesn't help Annette any. I don't know what to think about Aaron yet, and all this stuff about the history between the trio of these three characters families is becoming a little outlandish, but I'm assuming that everything will get tied up in book 3. I did like the story but there were just several aspects that got under my skin.
I don't believe in ruining anyone's surprise, so I am not giving away ANY of the story.

I have always been a huge fan of The Phantom of the Opera and with that being said I was thrilled Kailin came out with this series. It is a wonderful take on the classic and I found it an enchanting read. One of my favorite series so far, the story runs smoothly and quick. I love Kailin remarkable writing talent.
