This book is buckwild, and like... it's fine??? but mostly it is nutso. I think the most aggravating thing for me is how clearly the two other sisters romances are being set up as part of this trilogy, but they get so much page space in this book that it feels a little redundant to give them their own books. It's not a particularly enlightening romance, but the parts where they carry the body around are fun. But the romance itself left me feeling unconvinced.
I did appreciate, however, the heroines refusal to let others degrade her self worth based on having been a victim of an abusive relationship, BUT since it was her own sisters who were doing a lot of the degrading, it made me even less interested in the later books, which, I cannot stress enough, are given a ton of time and space in this book. And they aren't interesting romances!

The Countess The Madison Sisters Lynsay Sands 9780061963049 Books Reviews

This was a funny story despite the difficult situations the characters found themselves in. A little suspense, a little steam, and a HEA. One of the plot points didn't wrap up quite as neatly as the others, but a good read.
This was a good book. The first 1/4 of the book was slow and dragged on and on picked up after that. I’m glad that I stick with it though. Definitely worth read
I like Lynsay Sands' non-vampire books quite a bit, so I was excited she was coming out with more of them. But I don't feel like this one stacks up as well against her other books. The characters are fairly interesting and made me laugh, but the total time span of the book is absurdly short. There's not really any chance to get to know the characters in depth and feel connected to them. There also wasn't too much of a struggle in terms of the main 2 characters (Richard/Christiana) getting together.

I'm hoping the 2nd book will clear up some of the plot threads that were never addressed. I'm curious how she's going to manage a book on the other couple that also had a romance in the first and by the end was already on their way to getting married.
So this is the first historical I've read by Lynsay Sands (I LOVE her Argeneau series so decided to give this a chance) and I have to say that I enjoyed it. It made me giggle and it made me smile. Richard...what a gentleman. And those love scenes...hot. I did find myself skipping paragraphs, though. I wanted to find out who did what. Warning...this book doesn't have all its loose ends tied up. I'm looking forward to reading about Suzette and Daniel. And I can only hope that Robert and Lisa get together.
Christiana wed Dicky Fairgrave because he offfered to pay off her father's gambling debt; also he was sweet, romanced her and declared undying love. That all changed after marriage; Dicky was a critical, emotionally controlling man.She began to believe then that he wanted only her dower. Christiana's sisters pay a visit and tell Christiana that their father has run up more gambling debts. Her sister, Suzette, has come up with a plan to get a,man to marry her in agreement for three-fourths of her dower and for her to retain one-fourth to pay off her father's new debts. However, the sisters need a debut for Suzette to look for a man. Christiana decides that Dicky will need to furnish the debut for her sisters; when she goes to his office to approach him, she finds him dead. The sisters convince Christiana that they must keep his death a secret until after Suzette meets a man, so they "put him on ice" and go to a ball that night. Christiana is having a good time at the ball until she sees Dicky walk in, alive, well and looking very angry. This is such a good book; I recommend it ; especially if you like humor.
Where to begin with what is wrong with this book? The swift changing of time will give you whiplash. The book begins with Christians in dire straits she is being abused mentally and physically by Dicky. Then the plot does a full turnabout and becomes a slap stick comedy, which is written very clumsily. The author could have used a strong editor, or at least read Tessa Dare. Along the way are some pretty raunchy sex scenes (Richard and Christians have known each other for less than 6 hours!) The whole book takes place within 3-4 days! Ugh! Don't bother.
I am extremely disappointed by this book for several reasons. The first and foremost because the quality of the writing made me think this book was a SELF-PUBLISH instead of a novel by an acclaimed writer with several other books under her belt!

The most glaring problem to me was several examples of glaringly incorrect GRAMMAR - the basic minimum which I'd expect from a book (most especially with a publishing house behind it and presumably an EDITOR)!!! Examples include the author using "all for not" which is a complete NONSENSE PHRASE!!! "All for NAUGHT" is a proper expression which means all for NOTHING. Additionally, using the phrase "should of" which is a ridiculously amateur mistake in writing English, since the actual words (despite the incorrect pronunciation many people adopt) are actually "should HAVE" - such elementary mistakes SEVERELY detracted from my ability to enjoy this book.

Not to mention the fact that this author basically flat-out states (AND more than once) that Christiana, the main character - a well-bred LADY of the REGENCY PERIOD IN ENGLAND - is running around with zero clothing or undergarments beneath her dress. This may sound a bit nitpicky, but I like to get lost in a historical period piece and such outrageous disregard for facts really diminished my ability to enjoy the naughty parts (which was extra disappointing since it seemed like they might have been rather fun).

This attempt at a silly caper was not all together without charm, but the devil is in the details - and those details (which any editor worth his/her salt would have caught and corrected) cheapened the whole book's tone and simply made it impossible for me to really enjoy. Particularly frustrating because this novel was NOT a self-publish on . Really really disappointing and an absolute let-down.
This book is buckwild, and like... it's fine??? but mostly it is nutso. I think the most aggravating thing for me is how clearly the two other sisters romances are being set up as part of this trilogy, but they get so much page space in this book that it feels a little redundant to give them their own books.
